This full-time 10PA consultant post is based at Oak Park, Havant, within HIOW NHS Trust Core & Community CAMHS division. The role provides senior clinical leadership and specialist psychiatric care for children and young people aged 0-18, working within a well-established multidisciplinary team that includes other consultants, specialty doctors, non-medical prescribers, psychologists, and therapists.
The post holder delivers assessment, treatment, and case management, with 5 PAs of face-to-face clinical work and additional time for clinical meetings, correspondence, and consultation. The consultant will provide mental health assessment, treatment, and case management to referred children and young people aged 0-18 years.
The role includes participation in the daily duty consultant rota (11:00-15:00), supervision of trainees, and involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The consultant will also contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development. There will be 7.5 PAs of DCC and 2.5 PAs for SPA.
The post participates in the 1:12 out-of-hours CAMHS on-call rota, covering Section 136 suites and supporting crisis and liaison teams. Strong administrative, IT, and business support are provided, along with weekly consultant supervision. The role requires Approved Clinician status and a commitment to safeguarding, multidisciplinary collaboration, and high-quality, evidence-based care.
Consultants are key case-holders/care-coordinators for complex or high-risk cases only very rarely, so the vast majority (in fact all complex/high-risk cases) would have other MDT colleagues providing care-coordinator function.
If the post-holder takes up the role of Educational and Clinical Supervisor for a medical trainee, the time for psychiatric supervision would be accounted in SPA as per the guidance from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and adopted by HIOW.
SPA time will include (as per the National Consultant Contract) any ARs (additional responsibilities) and EDs (external duties) that are agreed between the post holder, Service Manager, and the ACD/CD/Lead Clinician, as part of the post-holder's portfolio of duties.
The post holder will, along with consultant colleagues and other senior MDT clinical leads, balance the demand for scheduled and unscheduled clinical care. The post holder will participate along with the other consultants in the daily duty consultant rota (11:00 am - 3:00 pm Mon - Fri during the working week).
To record and communicate such activity as appropriate according to best practice and Trust requirements. To balance demand for both scheduled and unscheduled clinical care in collaboration with colleagues and service managers. To participate in team and peer clinical supervision and co-working arrangements. To join the local Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists' Peer Supervision and Continuing Professional Development Group.
