Wiggin is a full-service law firm specialising in media, technology and intellectual property. We advise clients ranging from Hollywood studios and games developers to leading brands, platforms and technology businesses, combining high-end legal expertise with a commercial, real-world approach. We are known for our market-leading IP practice and deep sector expertise across media, entertainment and technology. We advise innovative and disruptive businesses on issues that sit at the heart of their commercial strategy. Our intellectual property practice is recognised for combining technical excellence with pragmatic, strategically focused advice.
We provide a one-stop-shop for IP services (with the exception only of patent filing), advising on the full spectrum of legal issues related to IP rights, with a busy litigation and disputes practice, integrated trade-mark and design portfolio practice, and significant advisory and commercial work. We regularly act in disputes and litigation for household names, particularly in the media, entertainment and technology sectors, analysing complex legal issues, providing strategic advice, and enabling clients to enforce and defend their rights, including co-ordinating international enforcement action. We appear regularly before the UKIPO and EUIPO registries and the English Courts, and in conjunction with our Brussels office we bring cases before the General Court and CJEU.
On a more personal level, the team is extremely collaborative, friendly and supportive, with a genuine enthusiasm for developing the skills and careers of our team members.
About the role: We are looking to hire an IP Litigation Associate as Wiggin continues to grow its IP disputes and patent capability. The role is likely to appeal to a high-calibre, mid-level associate from a leading patent disputes practice who wants to continue working on high-profile patent matters and also gain exposure to a wider range of IP contentious work. This is an opportunity to join an established, dynamic IP litigation team, where the IP litigators form one team and work on a variety of cutting-edge contentious matters. Often the work will involve international disputes and liaison with overseas counsel.
The Wiggin platform offers great variety and work-life balance, close client access and a visible role in a growing litigation practice. This opportunity is intentionally broader than a pure patent litigation role, requiring a strong foundation in patent disputes, with the opportunity to work on wider copyright, trade-mark, trade secrets, strategic IP and advisory matters. Wiggin acts for innovative businesses across technology, media, entertainment, digital content, games, sport and betting and gaming, meaning IP litigation issues often arise in a broader strategic and commercial context. That makes this a compelling move for an associate looking for first-rate disputes work combined with meaningful responsibility and the chance to help shape a busy litigation practice.
You will have client contact from day one and will be trusted to run workstreams with appropriate partner support.
- Advising on a mix of patent disputes, patent litigation and broader patent-related strategic IP matters, particularly those that are strategically important or technically complex or multi-jurisdictional.
- Supporting on litigation involving other IP rights in the UK courts, including drafting pleadings, witness evidence, correspondence and instructions to counsel.
- Advising clients on the wider strategic and commercial context surrounding patent and IP issues, including non-contentious and advisory matters outside formal litigation where relevant.
- Client contact on matters, helping to drive matters forward efficiently, commercially and with sound judgment.
- Co-ordinating with counsel, experts and, where relevant, international advisers on cross-border or multi-jurisdictional issues.
- Collaborating with colleagues across Wiggin’s wider IP, technology, commercial and sector teams.
- Contributing to pitches, thought leadership, profile-raising and broader business development activity.
- Helping shape the continued development of Wiggin’s patent offering, including know-how, precedents and internal capability-building.
About you: The successful candidate is likely to bring the following experience and attributes:
- You are an England and Wales qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent) with strong relevant experience in patent disputes / patent litigation.
- You are likely to have around 3 – 4 years’ post-qualification experience, although we are open-minded on PQE for candidates with the right quality, judgment and potential.
- You have trained and practised in a well-regarded team and have experience working on sophisticated, high-value or strategically important patent matters.
- You have excellent drafting, analytical and case management skills, and are comfortable taking ownership of workstreams with appropriate senior support.
- You must have substantive contentious experience and knowledge of litigation practice and procedure before the English courts.
- You are confident dealing directly with clients and can explain complex legal and technical issues clearly, commercially and pragmatically.
- You are interested in a role that offers broader exposure and a more varied platform than a pure patent litigation track.
- You are motivated by the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the growth of a patent practice within an established, highly regarded IP team.
- You are collaborative, ambitious and energised by working with innovative businesses across technology, media and other IP-rich sectors.
What we offer: This is a strong opportunity for an associate who wants to undertake high-quality patent disputes work benefiting from the broader depth, client base and reputation of the firm’s established IP practice. For associates coming from more conventional patent litigation environments, Wiggin offers something different: a client base rooted in innovation, valuable rights and digital change, and a practice shaped by deep sector understanding rather than a purely traditional disputes model. The result is a role that remains rigorous and high quality, but is often broader, more commercially connected and more varied in the issues it raises.
Wiggin combines a collaborative, informal working culture with serious sector expertise and ambition. For the right lawyer, that creates an environment in which it is possible to take responsibility early, build strong client relationships and develop a genuine profile within a growing practice. We are recognised for combining technical excellence with a pragmatic, commercially focused style, and for delivering advice that is shaped by a deep understanding of the sectors in which our clients operate.
For lawyers looking for a more differentiated platform for the next stage of their career, this represents a distinctive opportunity to join Wiggin. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and to fair, non-discriminatory recruitment. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and will make reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process. If there's anything we can do to help you perform at your best, please let us know.
Applications for this role will close on 26 June 2026.
