Plumbing and Gas Lecturer in Wigan

You know what good plumbing and gas work looks like. Now help apprentices build the skill, confidence and standards to do it well.

Plumbing and gas are changing. Learners still need strong practical skills, safe working habits and a clear understanding of installation, maintenance and fault-finding — but they also need to understand where the industry is heading, including low-carbon heating, sustainability and new technologies.

At Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll teach Plumbing and Gas apprenticeship programmes, mainly up to Level 3, bringing your industry knowledge into the classroom and workshop.

You’ll help apprentices develop the technical skills, professional behaviours and safe working practices employers expect. That means connecting theory with real jobs, real customers and the standards that matter on site.

We’re looking for someone with strong occupational competence in plumbing and gas, current Gas Safe registration, and substantial industry experience.

You might already be an experienced lecturer. Or you could be someone from the trade who has trained, supervised or mentored others and is ready for a move into teaching.

You don’t need to arrive with a teaching qualification. If you know your trade, can explain it clearly and want to develop others, we can support you to gain one.

Experience of air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps or other low-carbon heating technologies would be a real advantage as we prepare learners for where the sector is going next.

£31,699–£42,540 | Full time | Permanent | Wigan

You’ll join our Construction and Building Services team, helping apprentices move from learning the trade to becoming confident, competent professionals.

If you’re moving into FE from industry, you may also be eligible for a government levelling-up payment of £2,000–£6,000, subject to the scheme criteria.
