Your role:

  • You will carry out a full range of duties to effectively deliver crematorium-based operations including cremating and the delivery of the grounds maintenance.
  • Be sensitive to the needs of grieving families dealing with bereavement.
  • Be available to cover for other colleagues in the service including cemetery duties and office duties.
  • You will provide exceptional customer service, be adept at dealing with a range of customers, and be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Council when working in the borough.
  • You will lead by example and motivate others to work to collective goals and actively seek ways to improve the service, suggesting new ways of working and embracing change.
  • Some weekend work is required on a rota basis.

About you:

  • A flexible individual is required to fill a vacancy at Wigan Crematorium to carry out a full range of duties to effectively deliver crematorium-based operations including cremation, interment and scattering of ashes.
  • Day to day liaison with stakeholders, operational upkeep and reporting, and the delivery of the ground’s maintenance service in accordance with instructions and agreed procedures.
  • The role calls for the individual to work flexibly as part of a team with some out of normal hours work and some weekend duties included in the job role.
  • If you are interested, you will have to possess a current Cremation Technician proficiency certificate by one of the accredited bodies.
