Your role

You will provide ad hoc advice and support to governors and trustees, and Headteachers and Executive leaders about matters relating to school and academy governance, primarily in relation to the clerking of additional panels relating to complaints, pupil exclusions and staffing related matters. You will be joining and supporting a team of full-time clerks and, on occasion, support the delivery of clerking for school governing boards as cover clerks. The role is offered with some rostered hours, to allow attendance at team meetings as well as corporate training and job‑related training. The remainder of the hours are reserved and allow for the clerking of panel meetings. This job may be suitable for, but not limited to, individuals with excellent administrative skills or a background in HR or education and/or school governance.

About you

You will have excellent organisational and time management skills, be a good team player who can work equally well alone with minimum supervision. You will have a flexible approach to your working hours, including school hours and early evening, and be prepared to travel to schools across Wigan and neighbouring boroughs. You will have great communication skills and not be afraid to have courageous conversations. You will be a self‑starter with a strong attention to detail, to record decisions accurately and prepare official outcome letters and minutes in accordance with statutory timescales, guidance and policy regulations. You will be proactive in your own continuous professional development, knowledge and understanding of current legislation, policies and procedures for school and academy governance.
