Opportunities available across all Wigan Borough Libraries

Minimum of 3 consecutive hours per day. Various shifts available on an adhoc basis

Your role :

In this role you will be helping to co-ordinate and develop the events and activities within library branches. You will be working closely with branch staff and the library transformation team. You need to be willing to get involved with the delivery of events and activities that include children and adults, research what is available in the area and liaising with customers on what they would like to have on offer within their local branches. You will be supporting external and internal facilitators in the delivery of their events. You will have the confidence to work with staff to set up new groups to meet customer demands and community needs.

About you :

You will need to be a confident communicator and be able to tailor your approach depending on your audience whether that be adults or children. You need to be friendly, approachable, creative and willing to support a range of customers with their queries. You need to be outgoing and have a keen community interest, a proactive approach and a desire to support residents.

You will need to be available to support adhoc events that take place during evenings and weekends across various locations.

About us :

Customer Services deliver a variety of services from Wigan Borough

libraries. You’ll work holistically with customers, within libraries, to help them gain access to appropriate services which will enable them to make positive life changes, gain employment and work towards building self-reliance, improving their health and well-being and independence.

Staff member and managers will be on hand to support volunteers and with more complex enquiries. Regular support and guidance will be given by your branch manager and an alternative volunteering opportunity may be offered after a review period if either party feels this necessary. As a digital volunteer you will have the opportunity to meet new people, enhance your own digital skills and develop your own communication and customer service skills that can be used in future cv and job applications.
