Join us as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at our Todhills site in Bishop Auckland. Wienerberger Ltd manufactures and provides wall, roof and landscaping products for the construction sector. We offer innovative and sustainable solutions across the whole building envelope for new build, renovation projects and across the building industry.
About the role
As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (known as a Mechanical Fitter internally), you will be part of an in-house engineering team that keeps production running safely and reliably. You will work hands-on with plant and equipment, supporting planned maintenance and responding to breakdowns to help maintain consistent output and quality. Duties also include:
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on production equipment
- Supporting safe and efficient operation of specialist machinery
- Working with hydraulic, pneumatic and drive chain systems
- Replacing and aligning bearings
- Supporting fabrication and welding tasks where required
- Working closely with colleagues to minimise downtime
Your work will help us deliver reliable production of high-quality bricks for building/construction customers across the UK, supporting the performance and resilience of our operations. This position is based at our Todhills site, which is near to Bishops Auckland, Crook, Willington, and Spennymoor, commutable from Durham, Middlesborough, and Darlington. Due to the site location, it is accessible by personal vehicles only. Free parking is available.
Hours of work: 6.00am to 5.30pm, working 7 days out of every 14.
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
About You
Essential
- Mechanical engineering background with good experience in manufacturing environments
- Level 3 qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline
- Strong commitment to health and safety best practice
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to work flexibly in a busy, hands-on environment
- Experience of fault finding on hydraulic, pneumatic and drive systems
Desirable
- Completed a hands-on apprenticeship
- HNC or HND qualification or equivalent
- Experience in heavy manufacturing industry
- Arc and MIG welding or basic fabrication skills
- Experience with electrical control systems
