Widener University is seeking a non-tenure-track Instructor of Financial Planning in the School of Business Administration. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Business Administration, this is a 10-month, full-time non-tenure track position which involves instructing undergraduate and/or graduate students in financial planning, accounting, and business fundamentals. The position does not require research; however, it does involve serving on departmental and university committees and other service to the profession and Widener students.

The Instructor of Financial Planning (non-tenure-track) in the School of Business Administration will teach undergraduate and graduate courses across all areas of financial planning, delivered in a variety of modalities including in-person, online, hybrid, and distance education. The educator will employ innovative teaching practices, demonstrate a deep commitment to student success, and adapt to varied learning needs. The faculty member’s expertise and pedagogical excellence will play a vital role in advancing the department’s mission and vision, fostering academic growth, and preparing students for professional achievement in the field of financial planning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in financial planning and selected areas of accounting and business fundamentals, aligned with the candidate’s expertise.
  • Teach a 3/4 course load, primarily in person, with opportunities for online or hybrid instruction.
  • Foster student success through engaging, practical, and career-focused instruction.

Service and Leadership:

  • Actively participate in departmental and university committees.
  • Provide academic advising and career guidance to students.
  • Contribute to departmental administrative responsibilities and support professional initiatives.
  • Engage in service activities that benefit the University, the profession, and the broader community.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed to support departmental needs and align with the mission of the School of Business and Accounting department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s degree in taxation from an AACSB accredited business program by the date of appointment.
  • ABD and Ph.D. candidates will be eligible for consideration.
  • Strong commitment to student achievement, with a focus on guiding learners in developing a portfolio of marketable skills and competencies that enhance career readiness.
  • Dedication to excellence in teaching, demonstrated through the use of innovative, engaging, and student-centered pedagogical approaches.

Preferred:

  • Professional certification (CFP and/or CPA designation).

This is a non-tenure-track position, meaning the Instructor based on qualifications may be offered a three-year letter of appointment with the potential for ongoing renewal.
