Who We Are: Heaphy’s is a small independent café in the heart of Glastonbury, serving breakfast and lunch menus celebrating locally sourced ingredients, alongside our range of speciality cakes and drinks. We’re serious about serving a great cup of ethical, sustainable coffee!

We’re open 7 days a week for daytime hours on a rota basis from 07:30am to 17:30pm, with indoor and outdoor seating for approximately 45 covers in total. We occasionally do evening and special events.

Where you’ll be working: Heaphy’s Café is based in the centre of Glastonbury in the Market Place – at the heart of the community.

What you’ll achieve with us: As a motivated, welcoming member of our front-of-house team, you’ll be delivering great guest service in a friendly, relaxed environment. As a small café, our supportive team is critical to every aspect of delivering a great guest experience – you’ll spend time covering duties in all front-of-house areas including interacting with guests, taking orders and till work, washing up and cleaning duties, restocking, making beverages, clearing tables, and carrying out basic food preparation service.

What you’ll be doing as part of the team:

  • OPERATIONAL DELIVERY DUTIES: Preparing and serving beverage and food items (training provided), maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene at all times, carry out all tasks to ensure smooth operation of café and delivery of excellent guest service standards, assist with resolving guest complaints or queries, assist in delivering service for onsite private events.
  • FINANCE DUTIES: Record all food and beverage sales accurately using till system, carry out café close-down procedures including end-of-day reporting.
  • HEALTH AND SAFETY DUTIES: Adhere to health and safety regulations set out by Heaphy’s Limited in accordance with its statutory regulations, ensure accidents and near misses are recorded, ensure equipment is used and maintained appropriately.
  • OTHER DUTIES: Maintain excellent levels of communication with Catering Manager, the café team, and broader Heaphy’s Limited team, attend training courses as required including fire safety, allergens, basic first aid, ensure café daily security checks are completed.

In addition to the above, the post-holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities to be agreed with the Catering Manager.

Who we’re looking for: You’re a team player with some catering and barista experience (although training will be provided); you’ve got a passion for producing excellent coffee and celebrating local food and drink. You’re a ‘people person’ who loves interacting with customers, offering a warm, friendly service.

  • Able to make coffee at a fast pace whilst maintaining great consistency

Essential skills / knowledge / qualifications:

  • Great communication skills – allowing you to interact with guests in a warm, friendly manner to build positive relationships
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate (or willingness to complete this)
  • Willingness to go the extra mile to deliver great service
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team
  • Comfortable with the challenges of working under pressure when things get busy in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactively identify and complete tasks in quieter periods

Occasionally we may need to review a job description to incorporate any changes or other duties needed for the role as identified by the Catering Manager.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Temporary contract, Fixed term contract, Zero hours contract

Contract length: 8 months

Salary: £12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 32 per week
