What the opportunity looks like

We’re looking for a people‑focused communication specialist who will create and deliver clear and engaging content, amplifying our people agenda. Working closely with the HR Leadership Team and our broader Leadership Group, you will utilise established internal and external channels, standards and brand guidelines to strengthen colleague connection, understanding and engagement. From offline to online, UK to international, you’ll help ensure that communications reaches everyone and supports Whyte and Mackay continuing to be a Great Place to Work.

  • Lead the delivery of the Colleague Communication & Engagement Plan
  • Support leadership visibility, conferences and cultural communication moments
  • Develop and activate colleague‑centred campaigns and community initiatives
  • Shape and deliver colleague surveys and year‑round GPTW visibility
  • Partner to shape and activate the Employer Brand and EVP
  • Integrate colleague communications with brand and whisky communications
  • Build strong relationships across Distilling & Bottling and other business teams to improve communication effectiveness

Skills and experience that will help you be a success

For this role we’re looking for someone who has strong experience in developing and delivering communication and engagement plans, creating high‑quality written and visual content, and managing multiple internal and external communication channels. You should be confident using digital editing and design tools such as Canva or Adobe, and comfortable working with third‑party partners including social media providers, digital agencies and website support teams. Knowledge of best‑practice communication techniques within a multi‑site environment is essential, as is an understanding of employer brand and EVP activation across candidate and colleague touchpoints. Experience working across varied colleague groups – office‑based, offline operational and field‑based populations, including international – is essential to ensure communication methods are inclusive and accessible.

The role requires strong copy‑writing, editing and storytelling skills, excellent planning and project management capability, and the ability to communicate and present with confidence. The job holder must be able to work proactively, manage competing deadlines and bring creativity, curiosity and cultural awareness to how stories are told across the organisation. They should be digitally savvy, with a good grasp of social media trends and channel optimisation, and able to collaborate effectively, influence stakeholders and navigate sensitive topics with care. Personal qualities such as being methodical, reliable, pragmatic and a passionate advocate of great communication will enable the role holder to succeed and continuously improve the colleague experience.

We believe that everyone has the potential for growth in our roles! You may feel you don’t tick every box for this role, but if you believe you have relevant experiences that could help you succeed we’d much rather you apply than rule yourself out based on any self‑limiting beliefs.
