Role Description

The Lived Experience Facilitator will use their own lived experience and established recovery to educate and inspire others. The role primarily involves delivering our wellbeing curriculum in schools through engaging presentations and workshops. At times, you will also deliver WhysUp education sessions in corporate and community settings, adapting your story and using our resources to fit different audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver interactive presentations and workshops from WhysUp’s wellbeing curriculum in schools, focusing on resilience, positive mental health, and decision-making.
  • Share your personal story in a professional, structured and impactful way that supports learning and inspires change.
  • Facilitate sessions in workplaces and corporate settings when required, adapting content appropriately.
  • Build trust and connection with audiences of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Manage session logistics (travel to and from session, equipment set-up).
  • Contribute to WhysUp’s continuous improvement by reflecting on delivery and sharing feedback.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Represent WhysUp’s values and lived-experience ethos in all aspects of your work.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable lived experience of addiction or mental health challenges alongside established recovery.
  • Ability to share your story appropriately in a structured and professional setting.
  • Experience of public speaking or presenting to groups.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
  • Flexible approach to working.
  • Previous facilitation or training delivery experience.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding in schools/community settings.
  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable groups.
