Metrology Engineer

Key Areas of Responsibility, Duties and Deliverables Expected

Responsibilities

  • Write, create and edit measurement programs using measurement software – PC-DMIS.
  • Write and edit programs for the Zeiss (GOM) Scanbox using Zeiss Inspect software.
  • Assist the business by supporting NPI, Tooling, Manufacturing and Quality departments with Metrology activities.
  • Measure mouldings and gauges/fixtures as requested, providing data analysis with professional reports, e. g. FAIRs / ISIR.
  • Create measurement reports to satisfy customer standards and pre-requisites, both internal and external.
  • Confidently advise and discuss measurement activities that are undertaken.
  • Perform measurement tasks efficiently and proactively, ensuring a high standard of work ethic supported by Metrology knowledge and attributes.
  • Use hand-held measurement tools, i. e. Vernier, Micrometer, DTI etc.
  • Understand GD&T and work with specifications and tolerance requirements.
  • Apply basic first principle measurement attributes.
  • Be responsible for TPM of work areas and equipment, ensuring functionality and availability are optimised.
  • Assist with GD&T support to the wider business when requested.
  • Conduct measurement activities such as MSA, Cpk and SPC.
  • Support meetings when requested for Metrology input.
  • Mentor and assist with the upskilling of other team members.
  • Ensure measurement programs are produced to a high standard and coach best practice to others.
  • Use Microsoft programmes including Power Point and Excel.
  • Utilise Minitab software where required.

  • Assist other areas of the business when required to carry out the same or similar tasks.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within a Metrology environment.
  • Ability to operate CMM equipment.
  • Ability to operate Portable Arm equipment with scanning capabilities.
  • Ability to write and modify PC-DMIS programs.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of programming and operation of Zeiss (GOM) Scanbox.
  • Calibration experience within a laboratory environment.
  • Experience working within the Automotive industry.
