We are currently seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to join our Portfolio Data Workflows team in Edinburgh. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of designing, implementing and maintaining critical API services that power our financial data ecosystem, while helping to modernize our architecture to support our expansion into European markets. You'll have the opportunity to shape the future of our platform by implementing robust solutions that scale across multiple regions, enhance user experiences, and ensure compliance with European and international financial regulations. This position offers exceptional scope for technical leadership in transforming how our global clients interact with and leverage financial data.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and implement robust API services to support our rapidly growing European customer base.
  • Lead architecture designs and product roadmap creation.
  • Research and drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices to drive innovation.
  • Analyse and dive deep into a complex and powerful ecosystem, understanding requirements, determining optimal approaches and driving change.
  • Mentor, coach, and empower other engineers, contributing to an inclusive and high-performing team culture.
  • Amplify your technical ability by empowering your peers and contributing to code reviews and technical designs.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across the entire application stack.
  • Collaborate effectively with other engineers, product managers and stakeholders, in line with our company values.
  • Be part of a high-performing, cross-functional team.

Who You Are

  • You have extensive experience in software development, including building backend services in a professional environment.
  • You have a deep and expert knowledge of software design patterns, API design, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to influence technical direction and make significant contributions to the architecture of complex, distributed systems.
  • Understanding of REST, service-based architecture, and distributed systems.
  • A rapid learner with robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • A curious person, who enjoys digging deep into requirements and handling complexity.
  • You have a track record of amplifying your impact by mentoring other engineers and collaborating effectively within a team of senior peers.
  • Experience building services with Java, SQL and AWS.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch is a nice-to-have.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of using AI in a professional engineering environment.
  • Interest or experience in the financial industry or wealth management in particular.
