Job overview
Due to new investment, we are looking for clinicians who are interested in developing specialist skills in autism assessment to join our multidisciplinary Social Communication Team. You will be joining us at an exciting time as we are currently working with our colleagues across North Central London to transform our pathways, reducing waiting times and improving the journey for families.
The Social Communication Team currently provides an autism assessment service for children aged 2 to 12 and also works with the Language and Autism Support Team to provide post-diagnostic care for families. We are a friendly and supportive team based at Tynemouth Road Health Centre in Haringey, co-located with other children’s services including the wider therapy teams.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing input into both autism assessments and post diagnostic support for young people and their families. They will develop specialist skills within the area of autism as well as having knowledge and experience in a wide range of conditions relevant to the paediatric population.
The post holder will be responsible for managing and prioritising their own workload. They will be supported by senior clinicians in the Haringey Social Communication Team and will work alongside an established team of senior clinicians.

Education/Qualification
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy or degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
- HCPC registration
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of current best practice in SLT/OT and medical conditions associated with area of work.
- Understanding of neurodiversity and changes in terminology and therapeutic practice.
- Knowledge of autism assessment practice including NICE guidelines and DSM 5.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team including excellent communication, liaison, negotiation and influencing skills.
- To be able to work autonomously, acting decisively on behalf of self and others, setting own priorities. Ability to manage own time and a clinical caseload, and to describe ways of prioritising work.
- Documented evidence of continued professional development.
- Experience working with children with additional needs, especially children with ASC and communication difficulties, their relatives and carer.
- Experience taking case histories and assessing children’s strengths and difficulties.
- Experience using ADOS modules 1-4.
- Experience using other autism assessment tools such as ADI-R or Vanderbilt tele ASD- PEDS.
