Job Overview
Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow (Registrar grade equivalent) in General Surgery.
The role is a fixed‑term post with the possibility of extension dependent on departmental requirements.
The successful candidate will be fully registered with the GMC and will be eligible to progress within the NHS.
Main Duties
- Open‑ and laparoscopic operating in both emergency and elective settings.
- Involvement in outpatient clinics (current residents undertake 3 per week).
- Engage in training of junior staff and medical students.
- Managerial training covering clinical governance and audit/QIP projects.
- Regular review of progress and career advice with allocated supervisors.
- Support for audit and research projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full registration with the General Medical Council at the time of appointment.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience at SHO or equivalent level in General Surgery.
- Experience working in the NHS.
- Experience at Registrar level desirable; completion of MRCS preferred.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies and ST2/CT2 competences, with likelihood of achieving ST3/CT3 by start date.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.

- Good relationship and communication skills with patients.
- Strong teaching and training abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding children and adults, including knowledge of child protection and adult safeguarding procedures.
