12‑month fixed term contract; 30 hours per week (part‑time, 0.8 WTE)

One‑year secondment and maternity cover opportunity as a clinical specialist health visitor focusing on perinatal mental health. The role concentrates on specialist clinical duties with selected health visiting work.

Main duties of the job
  • Demonstrate commitment to best practice in all aspects of perinatal and maternal mental health while working with Bright Start teams and other partners in Islington and across Whittington Health.
  • Develop evidence‑based knowledge, attitudes and skills to be an expert resource for Bright Start teams in perinatal and maternal mental health, including the six High Impact Areas.
  • Assess local need and plan, coordinate and deliver training programmes and workshops to Bright Start staff and others, promoting best practice in perinatal and maternal mental health, baby brain, attachment theory, post‑natal depression and anxiety.
  • Participate in planning, carrying out and evaluating audits, research projects and innovations focusing on emotional wellbeing visits, newborn observations and social and emotional assessments made at the mandated contacts.
  • Support key stakeholder services such as CAMHS, mental health services and public health to deliver the PNMH strategy within the Bright Start Strategy and Best Start Local Plan.
  • Support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.
Person specificationSkills and ability
  • Excellent communication skills: IT, written and oral.
  • Willingness to lead and support management of change.
  • High levels of clinical skills with the ability to identify, respond to and evaluate health needs, including delivery of public health programmes.
  • Evidence of application of high levels of knowledge and skills relating to perinatal and maternal mental health in practice.
Knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of current legislation and national guidance relating to perinatal and maternal mental health.
  • Ability to apply research to practice.
  • Understanding of safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and capacity to make decisions in these areas.
  • Ability to manage staff and delegate work appropriately and safely.
Education / qualifications
  • Health Visiting professional qualification, entry onto the third part of the NMC Register.
  • Training and certification in perinatal mental health (e.g., NBO EWV).
  • Educated to master level or equivalent.
  • Additional qualifications/training such as IHV, PNMH Champion.
  • Trained and delivering on Solihull/Journey to Parenthood.
