Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in colorectal surgery. The post is also part of the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) model that currently involves a 4 person EGS consultant team. There are plans to expand the EGS workforce within the general surgery unit. The Whittington is a key provider of general surgery services in North Central London. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic consultant who is eager to assist with the development of both elective and emergency general surgery services across the Trust with a key aim of improving patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • The job will encompass all aspects of elective general surgery with the possibility of developing sub-speciality interests such as IBD, major abdominal wall reconstruction, pelvic floor etc.
  • The successful candidate should have experience in major colorectal resection surgery and proctology.
  • Experience in robotically assisted colorectal resections will be desirable as the department has recently acquired its first robotic platform.
  • There will be the opportunity for JAG-accredited surgeons to perform regular endoscopy.
  • There is a well-developed weekly benign GI MDT in which a successful candidate will be expected to be an integral member.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold appropriate Royal College (or equivalent accreditation) in General Surgery.
  • They should be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within 3 months of being admitted to the Specialist Register.
