Health Visitor Band 6 - Part time - 22.5 hrs (3 days) Barnet Health Visiting Team

We are looking for newly‑qualified or experienced Health Visitors who want to grow and learn as part of a team, who are warm and engaging with a sound understanding of the Healthy Child Programme and Safeguarding policy and practice. We can offer you friendly supportive teams, regular supervision and extensive evidence‑based training with skills practice to carry out your role. We have an excellent support package in place for Newly Qualified Health Visitors, including preceptorship. We provide opportunities for continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

  • The Health Visitor is responsible for the delivery of the universal and targeted Healthy Child Programme (HCP) to local families.
  • The Health Visitor will support the development of the service and work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective HCP.
  • Manage a caseload of families, being the named health professional with responsibility for planning and delivery of the HCP.
  • Identify needs within a family or community and use child and family centred public health approaches to address health inequalities.
  • Line‑manage junior members of staff, ensuring the completion of annual appraisals, 1:1s, and personal development of self and junior staff, and address poor performance appropriately.
  • Support students and new starters and aid the retention and recruitment of staff.
  • Deliver needs‑led evidence‑based care that supports local and national priorities and policies.
  • Act as the principal point of contact for allocated GP Practices and Children’s Centres in an area.
  • Work with local statutory, private and voluntary providers, and users to develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all sections of the local community, ensuring services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion.

Education and Qualifications

  • Health Visiting professional qualification, with entry onto the third part of the NMC Register
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Practice Assessor/Supervisor Training

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills: IT, written and oral
  • Willingness to develop and support management of change
  • Ability to set personal objectives, and manage time, priorities and stressful situations
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Collect and monitor data as required
  • Management experience in a health service setting

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of the Healthy Child Programme
  • Commitment to the development of excellent services, which focus on improved outcomes for children
  • Understanding of the safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and the ability to make decisions in these areas
  • Ability to identify, respond to and evaluate family health needs, including the delivery of public health programmes
  • Work flexibly to address the needs of the service
  • Must have ability to recognise own need for support and supervision
  • Able to exercise initiative

Safeguarding Children and Adults

  • Ensure familiarisation with and compliance with the London Child Protection Procedures and protocols for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
  • Ensure familiarisation with and compliance with the London Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Pan‑London Procedures.
  • Ensure familiarisation with and compliance with local protocols and systems for information sharing.
  • Know the appropriate contact numbers and required reporting lines.
  • Participate in required training and supervision.
  • Comply with required professional boundaries and codes of conduct.

Legal and Employment Information

You must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom or meet the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.
