This position forms a part of the Goods receipt and distribution. The key purpose of the role is to undertake delivery of goods and assist with all aspects of the distribution service under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor and Logistics Manager.
The role of a distribution officer is to contribute to the efficient and effective delivery service within Partners Procurement Service by ensuring that duties prescribed for the position are completed to an acceptable standard as detailed within schedules and methodologies.
Main duties of the job:- Maintaining and using adequate manual handling tools, materials and consumables in order for delivery duties to be carried out.
- To carry out other duties which may reasonably be required by the Supervisor or Logistics Development Manager.
- Undertaking daily, weekly, monthly, and annual routines to ensure all areas of responsibility are maintained to a high standard.
- Providing a high-quality standard of service throughout the area of responsibility to reduce loss or damage of goods and related risks to patients and visitors.
- Reporting to the Supervisor for work priorities and the Deputy Logistics Manager for support and guidance as and when required.
- To maintain an overall awareness of the department including health and safety, and aspects within security and fire procedures.
- To undertake any training programmes as required within the role including Information Governance and all mandatory training.
- The post holder will be expected to work in other areas of the service for familiarisation purposes in order to provide cover for other front line distribution staff within the Procurement shared services Department, which may include other sites.
- To undertake any extra duties as directed by the Supervisor and the Logistics Development Manager or the Director of Procurement Shared Services, in agreement with the post holder.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:- Undertaking delivery duties in accordance with the procurement standards; ensuring goods are delivered according to schedules.
- Maintaining and using adequate manual handling tools, materials and consumables in order for delivery duties to be carried out.
- To carry out other duties which may reasonably be required by the Supervisor or Logistics Development Manager.
- Undertaking daily, weekly, monthly, and annual routines to ensure all areas of responsibility are maintained to a high standard.
- Providing a high-quality standard of service throughout the area of responsibility to reduce loss or damage of goods and related risks to patients and visitors.
- To work to agreed planned duty timetable relevant to the ward/department so as to maintain the flow of consumables which have been ordered by the top-up team and to ensure items ordered by the wards or department arrive at their destination intact.
- To ensure all internal transfer notes are returned and placed ready for filing in order number to ensure audit process is followed.
- To help ward staff in the acceptance of goods on delivery, ensuring goods are delivered to an agreed location and are not left in any way obstructing safe movement in and out of the wards or area of delivery.
- To pick and process orders from a central location such as bulk stores and deliver as necessary.
- Reporting to the Supervisor for work priorities and the Deputy Logistics Manager for support and guidance as and when required.
- To work as part of a team in the delivery of the service, ensuring all materials and equipment are used in a cost-effective manner.
- To follow local procedures, ensuring that the correct equipment is used. To adhere to and comply with Health and Safety and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
- To report maintenance defects within the department to the Supervisor of Estates Dept, obtaining a job number where necessary.
- To maintain an overall awareness of the department including health and safety, and aspects within security and fire procedures.
- To undertake any training programmes as required within the role including Information Governance and all mandatory training.
- The post holder will be expected to work in other areas of the service for familiarisation purposes in order to provide cover for other front line distribution staff within the Procurement shared services Department, which may include other sites.
- Responsible for complying with all local policies and procedures.
- To undertake any extra duties as directed by the Supervisor and the Logistics Development Manager or the Director of Procurement Shared Services, in agreement with the post holder.
- Qualifications: GCSE - grades A to C in core subjects, A-levels.
- Skills: Basic awareness of Health & Safety, able to undertake a range of manual and routine tasks, self-motivated and able to use own initiative.
- Knowledge: NHS experience.
