Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist – Specialist in Pain Management

This is an exciting opportunity to join Whittington Health and help develop a community pain service in Haringey. We are seeking a senior physiotherapist or experienced band 6 with experience in NHS pain management services to take on this role.

Overview

You will join a Pain MDT that includes Pain Consultants, Pain Psychologists, Advanced Practice Physiotherapists (APPs), Pain Management Physiotherapists, a specialist service manager and administrative staff. In this role you will provide holistic, MDT‑led care to patients with persistent pain in a community setting, both in group and individual sessions.

You will be supervised by a Pain specialist APP and will have access to Pain CPD alongside MSK CPD. The team holds monthly Pain‑specific teaching, Pain business meetings, guided reflective decompression sessions and peer‑led reflective decompression sessions.

There may be an opportunity for a split speciality post within MSK services depending on budget constraints and service need.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of complex persistent MSK pain presentations from triage to discharge in line with current best practice.
• Conduct assessment, 1‑on‑1 and group treatment sessions.
• Participate in case discussions with other MDT members and hold joint treatments with Pain Psychology staff as appropriate.
• Act as a Pain Management Physiotherapy expert for the Haringey Community Pain Service.
• Supervise senior (band 6) Pain Management Physiotherapists and provide in‑service training, appraisal and personal development support.
• Maintain a caring and mature attitude when working closely with patients and staff.

Qualifications & Experience

• Senior physiotherapist or experienced band 6 with NHS pain management service experience.
• Strong assessment and treatment skills for musculoskeletal pain.
• Experience working within an MDT and supervising junior staff.
• Clinical competence in both individual and group settings.
• Commitment to continuous professional development in pain and MSK CPD.
