Overview

You will work with close supervision and support, alongside a friendly, open, supportive and experienced therapy team to deliver assessment and intervention for children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs. You will also provide training and advice to empower their families and education staff. This role is based in Barnet mainstream schools and special schools in the borough, with potential for part-time or flexible working.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy service to clients referred with speech, language and communication difficulties within mainstream schools and special schools in the borough.
  • Deliver appropriate formal and informal assessments, make differential diagnoses based on assessments, and communicate complex condition‑related information to children, carers, families and members of the multidisciplinary team/other professions.
  • Maintain sensitivity to the emotional needs of clients and carers when imparting complex and distressing information regarding the nature of the client’s difficulties and their impact on individuals and families.
  • Following assessment and differential diagnosis, design and develop evidence‑based treatment and management programmes to be implemented within the multidisciplinary teams available, and within the child’s family.
  • Take an active interest in working parties and groups within the Trust to develop and improve service delivery, protocols and guidelines.
  • Research and development: ensure practice is supported by research, evidence‑based practice, literature and peer review.
  • Undertake Clinical Governance and Audit projects within the local service.
  • Comply with safeguarding policies and procedures for children and adults, and participate in required training and supervision.

  • Be familiar with local information sharing protocols and reporting lines.
  • Know the appropriate contact numbers and reporting channels; participate in required training and supervision; comply with professional boundaries and codes of conduct.
