The post is being offered as 0.4 WTE.
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated band 6-7 Speech and Language Therapist in Barnet Children\’s Integrated Therapies Complex Needs and Dysphagia team. The role involves working with children aged 0-5 years in various settings, providing assessment and intervention for complex cases, and supporting communication and swallowing development. The post offers a development opportunity within a supportive team.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be based within the Barnet Complex Needs and Dysphagia SLT Team, delivering services to children in their homes, clinics, and early years settings. Responsibilities include managing a clinical caseload, providing assessments and interventions, collaborating with MDTs, and supporting the development of children’s communication and swallowing skills. The role also involves training, supervision, and providing second opinions to colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Manage a personal clinical caseload demonstrating expertise.
- Assess, diagnose, plan, and deliver therapy for children with dysphagia and communication difficulties, supervising others as needed.
- Collaborate with clients, families, and colleagues, involving them in care planning.
- Provide second opinions and support clinical governance.
- Monitor and review progress, adapting care plans accordingly.
- Consider cultural and linguistic backgrounds in practice.
- Produce reports, therapy plans, and advice promptly.
- Complete EHCP advice as per legal requirements.
- Refer to other professionals when necessary.
- Undertake home visits following safety policies.
Person specification
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent literacy/numeracy.
- Degree or equivalent, HCPC registration, and Licence to Practice.
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
Experience
- Experience working with children with speech, language, and feeding difficulties, including complex needs.
- Experience in community settings and MDT collaboration.
- Supervisory and training experience.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in feeding and communication disorders.
Knowledge/Skills
- Understanding of NHS policies, confidentiality, and cultural considerations.
- Expertise in assessments and interventions for complex disabilities.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and IT skills.
Other
- Ability to travel independently within the borough.
