We are seeking a Consultant Dermatologist (or GPwER) to join our Community Dermatology Service. The service serves over 20,000 patients across Kent and Medway, providing a consultant‑led, accessible and efficient dermatology service. The role is designed to support primary care by managing the majority of diagnostics, outpatient and surgical activity within community settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, investigation and treatment for dermatology patients of all ages, excluding 2‑WW referrals, connective tissue disorders, leg ulcers and systemic illnesses.
  • Deliver a full diagnostic service including phlebotomy, biopsy, swab collection, cryotherapy and reporting of results.
  • Operate as a one‑stop‑shop, ensuring patients are assessed and receive treatment within the same appointment where possible.
  • Provide a high‑quality, accessible, multidisciplinary service with consultant oversight, meeting NICE guidance and best practice.
  • Triage all referrals to the dermatology pathway and manage cases appropriately in line with local referral pathways.
  • Refer patients to hospital only when necessary (e.g., tier‑4 cases, acutely unwell patients, diagnostic uncertainty or treatments that require hospital supervision).
  • Offer clinical opinions and detailed management plans to referring clinicians, supporting the GP with follow‑up as appropriate.
  • Provide information, support and education on self‑care, prevention and long‑term management of skin disease.
  • Develop integrated pathways and maintain good communication across all tiers of care, bridging primary and secondary services.

Schedule & Working Conditions

  • Flexible days of work with a minimum of four sessions per month (approximately one morning/afternoon per week or two full days per month).
  • WMP pay is competitive at each staff grade.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Evidence of additional qualifications in dermatology or related specialties.
  • Proven experience providing high‑quality dermatology care in outpatient settings.
  • Knowledge and experience of acute dermatology management.
  • Expertise across the full range of dermatological problems with independent clinical responsibility.
  • Broad understanding of clinical governance principles.
  • Experience working independently within a primary care environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
  • Commitment to continuing medical education and clinical governance requirements.
  • Flexible working attitude.
