We are currently seeking a Probate, Trusts and Estates Tax Technician to join our growing Private Client team. This is a full‑time position (37.5 hours per week) based in our Ely office, with flexibility for the Bury St Edmunds office or a hybrid working arrangement. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are early in their career journey, looking to build expertise in probate, estate administration, and trust taxation. The successful candidate will be detail‑oriented, proactive, and committed to delivering high‑quality service in a professional manner. Experience is not essential but would be an advantage. Flexibility across private client tax services can be tailored to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Probate & Estates

  • Prepare draft IHT400 forms (or equivalents) to support grant of probate applications
  • Compile probate papers for submission
  • Capture estate data using specialist software to generate forms and computations
  • Draft estate accounts with accuracy and clarity
  • Provide support to non‑probate staff as needed

Trust & Estates Tax

  • Prepare self‑assessment tax returns, including capital gains computations and property income schedules
  • Submit 60‑day CGT returns and IHT100 forms for trusts
  • Register trusts and estates on HMRC’s Trust Registration Service (TRS)
  • Monitor trust anniversaries and ensure timely reporting
  • Handle estate tax returns or informal HMRC reporting
  • Liaise directly with HMRC when required

Client Management

  • Engage directly with probate, estate, and trust clients
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships via phone, email, and meetings
  • Draft client bills promptly and accurately
  • Deliver exceptional client service with empathy and professionalism

General Duties

  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support team goals
  • Undertake CPD training to maintain professional standards
  • Assist Partners, Associates, and Managers with ad hoc tasks
  • Contribute to internal communications and team development
  • Perform general administrative duties as required

Salary/remuneration package on offer will be at market rates in line with knowledge and experience.
