A technically focused role working with larger, more complex businesses. Are you an experienced accounts professional looking to step into a role where your technical skills really matter? We’re recruiting an Accounts Manager / Assistant Manager to join our Corporate Services team, working with medium‑sized and larger entities and providing high‑quality financial reporting and advisory support. This is a non‑audit role, ideal for someone who enjoys getting into the detail of accounts, corporation tax and special projects — without the pressures of leading audits. If you’re technically strong, enjoy problem‑solving and like variety in your work, this could be a great fit.

A bit about us: Whitings LLP is a long‑established firm with strong client relationships across East Anglia. We support growing and established businesses with far more than day‑to‑day compliance. Our clients value us for clear advice, technical confidence and a collaborative, down‑to‑earth approach. You’ll be joining a friendly, supportive team who work closely together and take real pride in the quality of their work. There’s a strong culture of learning, development and doing things properly.

What you’ll be doing day‑to‑day: In this role, you’ll work closely with audit managers and the partners to deliver high‑quality services to our larger corporate clients. Your work will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and financial reporting for medium-sized and larger entities, including consolidations (note some smaller FRS102 1A accounts will also be included in your portfolio)
  • Managing and supporting corporation tax and VAT compliance and related submissions, with support from our specialists
  • Assisting with specialist and ad hoc assignments, including technical accounting matters and one‑off support projects
  • Working with clients to understand their financial position and provide clear, practical input
  • Mentoring junior staff, providing guidance and reviewing their work, sharing technical knowledge and good practice
  • Liaising with internal teams to ensure work is accurate, timely and to a consistently high standard

While this role does not include audit, prior audit experience is welcomed and can be helpful – but is certainly not essential.

Who we’re looking for: You’ll be well suited to this role if you:

  • Are ACCA/ACA qualified with at least 2 years’ post‑qualification experience (or newly qualified with strong relevant experience)
  • Have experience working with medium sized or larger corporate entities
  • Are technically strong, particularly in financial reporting and corporation tax
  • Enjoy working on complex or unusual matters and getting into the detail
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues
  • Are organised, dependable and comfortable managing deadlines
  • Enjoy developing others and contributing to a positive team culture
  • Like working as part of a collaborative team while also taking ownership of your work

What you’ll get from us: A technically interesting role with variety and responsibility, exposure to larger and more complex businesses, including specialist projects, clear support, development and progression opportunities, a friendly, inclusive workplace where quality and balance both matter, competitive salary and benefits, reflecting your experience and contribution.

Core benefits:

  • Generous annual leave (25 days per annum plus Bank Holidays – if studying this will be reduced to 20 days per annum with one additional day every 2 completed holiday years)
  • Continued development including attending training courses, webinars, leadership, management development and continuing professional development programmes
  • Flexible working is encouraged and regularly reviewed
  • Enhanced Maternity Pay Policy
  • In case of long‑term sickness or incapacity, income protection is provided
  • Life assurance
  • Paid study leave
  • Paid professional subscriptions
  • Health Shield cash back plan – for treatments such as dental, optical and physiotherapy etc (a more extensive list is available)
  • Flu vaccinations
  • Enhanced sick pay
  • Tax efficient pension (salary sacrifice)
  • We have a wellbeing programme, which includes counselling and mental health support and legal advice
  • Team social events, fundraising and activities with other local offices.

Interested? If you’re looking for a role where your technical skills are valued, your work is varied, and your development is supported, we’d love to hear from you.
