We're seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to join our Operational Solutions team, supporting the delivery of complex programmes across Defence and other highly regulated sectors. This role is ideal for a Portfolio, Programme and Project Management (P3M) professional who has developed strong delivery and assurance expertise within Defence, Government, infrastructure, energy, transport, technology or similarly complex environments and is looking to apply that experience within a growing, values-driven consultancy.

Since our establishment in 2018, Whitetree has been on a mission to empower clients, make lasting impacts, and provide unmatched career growth opportunities. We're passionate innovators driven by our values of Trust, Integrity, Innovation, and Excellence.

To support effective collaboration and client delivery, you will ideally live within a commutable distance to Bristol.

The Role

Working as part of our Operational Solutions team, you will provide senior-level programme and project support across a range of client engagements. You will bring significant expertise in programme governance, planning, controls, risk and issue management, reporting, benefits management and delivery assurance, helping clients improve delivery performance and achieve strategic outcomes.

You’ll be expected to work independently, provide constructive challenge, and deliver credible advice and recommendations to senior stakeholders across complex programmes and portfolios.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Programme & Project Delivery: Providing leadership and support across complex programmes and portfolios, ensuring effective governance, planning, controls, reporting, risk and issue management, benefits management and assurance activities. You will help clients improve delivery performance, manage dependencies and make informed decisions that support successful outcomes. This will include working across delivery, commercial and supplier stakeholder groups to understand programme dependencies, procurement approaches, contractual commitments and supplier performance considerations, ensuring these are appropriately reflected within governance, delivery planning, risk management and assurance activities. You will be comfortable interpreting the impact of commercial decisions on programme delivery and applying value-for-money principles when developing recommendations and solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Success in this role requires excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across senior leadership teams, delivery partners, commercial teams, suppliers and wider stakeholder communities. You will be confident influencing decisions, facilitating collaboration and providing effective support and challenge within complex environments.
  • Business Development: As a senior consultant, you will support business development activities by building strong client relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and contributing to bids, proposals and client solutions that deliver value and support Whitetree's continued growth.
  • Defence & Training Environment: Experience within Defence, Government or other highly regulated sectors is highly desirable. Exposure to training delivery, capability development or workforce readiness programmes would be advantageous, particularly within Defence environments.

Skills & experience required

  • Significant experience delivering Portfolio, Programme and Project Management (P3M) services within Defence, Government or similarly regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of programme governance, planning, controls, reporting, risk and issue management, benefits management and delivery assurance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience operating within complex, multi-stakeholder environments and supporting senior decision-makers.
  • Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of how procurement strategies, contractual arrangements, supplier performance, and value-for-money considerations can influence programme delivery, governance, risk, and outcomes.
  • Experience contributing to business development activities, including client relationship management, opportunity identification, proposal writing, bid support and account growth.
  • Ability to provide independent advice, practical solutions and constructive challenge.
  • Experience within Project Controls, PMO, Programme Assurance or Risk Management functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ideally located within a commutable distance to Bristol
  • Current right to live and work in the UK
  • Current SC clearance or willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check
  • Willingness and ability to work from home and travel for client engagements, including overnight stays away from home around the UK when required
  • Defence training or capability development experience.
  • Understanding of Defence operating models and command structures.

We’re looking for a proactive, collaborative and confident professional who can balance delivery, stakeholder and commercial considerations while providing clear, evidence-based advice and assurance to support programme success.
