Job Description

Principal Electrical Engineer – Infrastructure Projects | Up to £100K + Car Allowance

Join a global M&E Design & Build Contractor delivering cutting-edge infrastructure across Rail, Highways, Water & Energy sectors.

We’re looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer with a passion for driving projects from design through to commissioning, ensuring top standards in safety, quality, and compliance.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead electrical engineering across all project stages: tender, design, installation, testing, commissioning & handover
  • Manage and mentor a talented team of engineers, designers & BIM/CAD techs
  • Deliver high & low-voltage designs (up to 33kV) — lighting, UPS, switchboards, VSDs & more
  • Conduct thorough design reviews, ensuring buildability and compliance
  • Collaborate on PLC control systems (SCADA, BMS) and contribute to safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON)
  • Oversee project documentation and coordinate with on-site teams to resolve issues
  • Support tenders and liaise with manufacturers to ensure product suitability

You’ll bring:

  • HNC in Electrical Engineering + Chartered status (or working towards it)
  • Infrastructure experience (Rail, Highways, Power, Water, Highways)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical installations, legislation & design standards
  • Skilled with Amtech/Trimble, Cymap, AutoCAD/Microstation
  • Experience with low-to-medium voltage systems
  • Leadership, communication & team management skills
  • SMSTS and/or CSCS card & UK driving licence
