Whitehall Resources require a PowerApps SME to work with a key client on a 6 month initial contract. This role will involve on site work in Sheffield 3 days per week. Inside IR35.
Role purpose:
We are seeking an experienced engineering professional with an architecture mindset to join our team as a Technical Subject Matter Expert. The role provides subject expertise and hands-on guidance alongside the engineering function and leads a team. The role is accountable for designing solutions Power Platform changes, ensuring alignment with global technology principles, architectural patterns, and strategic objectives. The role translates business requirements into robust technology solutions, maintains consistency of solution design through delivery, ensures compliance with regulatory and internal standards, and proactively mitigates operational risks to achieve desired business outcomes.

- CIOs and senior technology leadership
Key responsibilities:
Design leadership & governance:- Assessment of use cases to ensure that these are appropriate for development on Power Platform with redirection of use cases where appropriate enterprise level solutions are already available.
- Working with the product owner establish and operate appropriate design governance to enforce adoption only where appropriate.
- Own and drive Microsoft Power Platform solution design across the UK Common Services Value Stream, aligned to global principles, architectural patterns, and strategic objectives.
- Assess demand and confirm Power Platform is the right tool; recommend alternative solutions where appropriate.
- Translate business requirements into high-level and detailed technical solution designs, ensuring design integrity throughout the development lifecycle.
- Partner with engineering teams to define and enforce standards/guardrails and ensure non-functional requirements are embedded (e.g., security, resilience, performance, supportability).
- Conduct and/or oversee code and design reviews in accordance with engineering principles and best practices.
- Proactively identify, articulate, and manage technical risks, issues, and technical debt; ensure appropriate mitigation plans are in place.
- Ensure solutions meet governance, regulatory expectations, and Risk/Compliance/Security standards; reduce operational risk through supportable designs.
- Contribute to strong production outcomes through good operational awareness and supportability-focused design.
- Communicate effectively across a complex stakeholder landscape, adapting style and content for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Influence decision-making across business and technology stakeholders to achieve agreed outcomes and value delivery.
Skills and experience:
Mandatory skills:- Power Platform: Power Apps (Canvas/model-driven), SharePoint, Power BI
- Relational databases: design, SQL, performance/tuning
- Integration: Web APIs (REST/SOAP), integration technologies and protocols
- Tooling: Git, JIRA, Azure DevOps (or equivalent)
- Proven track record delivering automation/digital solutions in a Technical SME and/or Solution Architect capacity.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile delivery approaches.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, including the ability to present technical detail to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and operate effectively in complex stakeholder environments.
- Azure Cloud experience.
- Coding and unit testing experience; knowledge of additional programming languages.
- Experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and/or other market-leading Low Code No Code (LCNC) automation/digital tools.
Success measures (outcomes):
- High-quality, governance-compliant solution designs delivered consistently across the value stream.
- Full compliance with the Architecture FIM and the relevant CTO strategies covering Power Platform, LCNC and Automation.
- Reduced operational risk through resilient, secure, supportable designs.
- Strong stakeholder outcomes through clear communication, effective influence, and alignment to strategy and architectural standards.
