Whitehall Resources require a SAP Solution Architect to work with a key client on a 3 month initial contract. This role will require on site work in Nottingham 2 days per week. Inside IR35.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced SAP Solution Architect to provide end-to-end solution oversight across HR/Payroll, Procurement, Finance, and Reporting workstreams. The role will ensure that designs are cohesive, integrated, secure, and aligned to programme objectives, SAP best practices, and organisational standards. The Solution Architect will act as the design authority across workstreams, balancing business requirements with technical feasibility, integration patterns, and cloud constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end solution architecture across HR/Payroll, Procurement, Finance, and Reporting.
- Ensure cross-workstream designs are consistent, integrated, and aligned to target architecture.
- Act as the architecture decision authority, reviewing and approving solution designs and deviations.
- Ensure adherence to SAP Best Practices, Public Cloud principles (where applicable), and fit-to-standard approaches.
- Define and govern integration patterns between HR / Payroll systems, S/4HANA Finance, Procurement solutions, and Reporting and analytics platforms.
- Ensure master data, transactional flows, and reporting outputs are consistent and controlled.
- Work closely with Technical, Integration, Data, Security, and Infrastructure teams.
- Engage with Programme leadership and workstream leads to translate business needs into architectural solutions.
- Provide clear guidance to stakeholders on design options, impacts, risks, and trade-offs.
- Support governance forums, design boards, and assurance reviews.
- Act as a trusted advisor to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Define the reporting and analytics strategy across workstreams.
- Ensure alignment between operational reporting, statutory reporting, and management information.
- Oversee integration with SAP analytics tools (e.g. Embedded Analytics, SAC) and non-SAP platforms where required.
- Identify and manage architectural risks, dependencies, and technical debt.
- Ensure non-functional requirements are met (security, performance, scalability, auditability).
- Support audit and compliance requirements, particularly where data flows cross systems.
- Ensure solution documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as an SAP Solution Architect on large, multi-workstream programmes.
- Proven experience spanning Finance, Procurement, HR/Payroll, and Reporting domains.
- Deep understanding of SAP S/4HANA architecture (Public Cloud and/or Hybrid).
- Strong integration architecture experience (APIs, middleware, event-based integration).
- Experience working with SAP Activate and managing projects using SAP Cloud ALM.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and detailed design levels.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience in UK Local Government or Public Sector environments.
- Knowledge of payroll integrations and third-party HR/PY systems.
- Experience with SAP analytics solutions (Embedded Analytics, SAC).
- Experience supporting programmes with strong governance and audit requirements.
Certifications
- SAP Solution Architect or relevant SAP certifications (highly desirable).
