Whitehall Resources are looking for an Akamai Security Engineer. This role is hybrid working with 3 days per week onsite in Cheshire, and the remainder remote working for an initial 8-month contract.

Role Description

We are looking for an Akamai Security Engineer to support the configuration, deployment, and ongoing management of Akamai security solutions across our web and API platforms. The engineer will work with security and engineering teams to ensure secure, reliable, and high‑performing digital services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain Akamai security tools (Kona Site Defender, WAF, Bot Manager).
  • Support implementation of security policies, rulesets, and traffic routing configurations.
  • Monitor web traffic, identify threats, and assist in incident response activities.
  • Tune WAF and bot rules to reduce false positives and improve protection effectiveness.
  • Assist with CDN configuration, caching strategies, and performance optimisation.
  • Manage certificates, edge redirects, property updates, and Akamai console changes.
  • Collaborate with application teams to ensure secure deployments and alignment with best practices.
  • Provide documentation and contribute to continuous improvements in web security operations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with Akamai technologies (e.g., KSD, WAF, CDN).
  • Understanding of web security fundamentals: OWASP Top 10, DDoS, bot activity.
  • Familiarity with HTTP/S, DNS, TLS, caching, and content delivery networks.
  • Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, Shell, or Akamai APIs).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).
  • Exposure to DevSecOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, or IaC.
  • Experience with SIEM or monitoring tools.
