Our client is a specialist consulting business supporting the chemical and petrochemical industries on product regulatory, health and environmental issues. Since it was established, it has rapidly gained wide recognition for its ability to deliver on regulatory and associated scientific issues, providing advice and assistance to companies both large and small, and also to trade organisations on a global basis.
Managing some of the largest regulatory projects in the EU as well as being involved in other large consortia and numerous activities for companies large and small. Our client also provides Product Stewardship services for clients and companies, where the offering is supported by a unique approach using dedicated software.
The General Manager is a critical senior professional position to guide and develop the company as it transitions from a founder proprietor/manager model to one of a self-sustaining outward looking business, continuing to grow and provide enhanced services to consortia and enterprises wherever they may be located.
The principal role of the General Manager will be to coordinate the processes and operation across the organisations, to ensure efficiency and profitability with a smooth efficient service that meets the expectations and needs of customers and clients, increase management effectiveness by stewarding the resources of the company, communicate values, strategies and objectives, plan, monitor, and appraise job results; developing a climate for offering information and opinions.
The General Manager will respond to the Directors and will manage a growing team of over 30 specialist professionals that are based in Belgium and the UK with contractors in EU countries, India and the US. It is expected that the team will grow with the development of the business.
Working with the Directors, the General Manager will develop strategic plans of the business, develop key performance indicators and ensure business targets are met, set and review budgets, manage costs, manage resources and manage recruitment.
The General Manager will also contribute to the development of the software business and manage the opportunities that the software provides for the provision of Product Stewardship and other services.
Candidate Profile
- Education to a high degree and preferably an MBA
- Knowledge of financial management and controls
- IT literate and ability to manage systems to achieve agreed objectives
- Leadership skills to motivate work groups and colleagues β with both direct and indirect authority
- Highly competent communication skills β written and oral
- Consistent approach to the management of projects and their reporting
- Knowledge of the chemical industry (their structures and operations globally) would be a benefit
- Knowledge of global chemical regulatory schemes would be advantageous
