About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a dedicated and inclusive school environment. This role is focused on providing tailored support to an individual pupil with behavioural challenges, helping them to access learning and develop socially and emotionally within a specialist setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work 1:1 with a designated pupil, providing consistent behavioural, emotional, and academic support throughout the school day.
- Implement and follow individual behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and personalised learning strategies.
- Assist the class teacher in creating a positive, supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional wellbeing.
- Support the pupil during transitions, break times, and in managing challenging situations using de-escalation techniques where necessary.
- Record and monitor behaviour and progress, reporting regularly to the class teacher, and other relevant professionals.
- Liaise effectively with parents/carers, external agencies, and the wider pastoral team to ensure holistic support for the pupil.
- Promote positive relationships and help develop social and communication skills.
- Maintain high levels of safeguarding and confidentiality at all times.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
- A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and a trauma-informed approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to behaviour in a constructive and supportive way.
- Team player with a flexible and patient approach.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent).
