Our team is responsible for ensuring the Firm adheres to all regulatory and legal requirements while maintaining high standards of ethical conduct. Our team plays a crucial role in managing legal and commercial risk and ensuring that new client engagements are in line with the Firm’s strategic goals and regulatory requirements. A key aspect of our role includes conducting thorough conflict-of-interest checks to identify and address any potential conflicts before opening new matters and running anti-money laundering and reputational risk checks before onboarding new clients. We provide guidance on risk assessment, compliance with legal standards and the development of effective client onboarding processes.
Our Compliance and New Business team develops, implements, and oversees compliance policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations across all jurisdictions. We conduct internal audits and compliance reviews, provide training and guidance on regulatory matters, and address any potential compliance issues or violations. Our team also collaborates with external regulatory bodies, manages compliance reporting, and helps shape the Firm’s compliance strategy in response to evolving legal and regulatory landscapes. By safeguarding the Firm’s reputation, meticulously managing conflicts of interest and supporting new business development, the Compliance and New Business team plays a crucial role in maintaining the Firm’s integrity and operational excellence, and alignment with its ethical and strategic objectives.
Duties and Accountabilities:
- Ability to perform all the responsibilities of a Conflict Analyst position.
- Conduct detailed research and analysis on clients of the Firm, their shareholders and beneficial owners.
- Using external and internal databases to ensure full compliance, on a documented risk basis, with global conflicts and AML rules and regulations to which the Firm is subject.
- Provide analysis, recommendations and address conflict issues as needed for each type of request and escalating to managers and GC when required.
- Resolve complex issues by reaching out to Partners, industry approval groups, GC team, etc., to determine appropriateness of Firm’s new businesses.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of multi-jurisdictional ethical regulations especially the US and SRA rules.
- Handle additional extra projects and work towards becoming a subject matter expert.
- Review and communicate with General Counsel(s) for direction and guidance and approval of special considerations.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to enhance the skills of others.
- Handle expedited review and conflict approval when requested.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by Management.
Qualifications and skills:
- University degree preferred in Law, Business, Finance or Marketing preferred but not essential.
- Two-three years’ relevant work experience required.
- Strong academic record and intellectual curiosity, creative thinker.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels.
- Exhibit mature judgement and appropriate handling of confidential information.
- Pragmatic, self-motivated, flexible and able to work both in team and individually as required.
- Works well under pressure and deadlines.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks, as and when required.
- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office, ideally experience of iManage/document management systems.
This position is located in London. Our standard office hours are 09:30 – 18:00, with a current requirement of 4 days in the office per week.
