We are looking to appoint an Academy Caretaker who shares our values and can bring expertise, energy and commitment to our Premises Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in school working closely with other Caretakers and leaders to manage the security of our buildings and take a proactive role in the maintenance and management of our school sites.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the buildings and site are well maintained, safe, warm and dry.
  • Minor/basic repairs and improvements.
  • Coordination, liaison and supervision of contractors.
  • General porterage duties, including receiving deliveries, moving furniture and resources, and setting up for functions.
  • Supervision of cleaning staff and/or third-party cleaning contractors to ensure efficient, high-quality internal and external cleaning.
  • Cleanliness of all internal and external areas, including site clearing and winter maintenance.
  • Keep leaders informed of any site issues in a timely manner.
  • Security duties including locking & unlocking of the site and its contents, acting as the primary key holder, first point of contact, and responder for emergency call-outs both inside and outside of working hours.
  • Co-ordination of all lettings alongside the Academy Admin team.
  • Response to emergencies (fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident, major damage, etc.) and provide emergency access to the school site, liaising with police, security, and surveillance contractors as required.
  • Pro-active Health & Safety, ensuring the site operates safely and that safe working practices are adopted by all, in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Update and maintain records relating to Compliance, Health and Safety and Asset Management, including updating all premises and health & safety site risk assessments.

  • Flexible towards place of work, duties and working hours and work across the Trust's estate as required.
  • Willing to comply and actively implement the School's and Trust policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children by adhering to all statutory and associated workplace policies.

Full Time, 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year on a split shift arrangement Monday - Thursday: 07:00 - 10:30 & 14:00 - 18:00, Friday: 07:00 - 10:00 & 14:00 - 18:00, with additional hours as required.
