First Military Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced

Class 1 HGV Driver on behalf of one of our clients.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a former Armed Forces or veteran driver looking to secure a stable, Monday-to-Friday driving position with no evening or weekend work.

The successful candidate will operate a

Class 1 articulated vehicle in a varied role, combining trailer shunting, container work, and occasional multi-drop deliveries. The position will involve regular work around

Felixstowe , as well as container movements from

London Gateway, Southampton, and Felixstowe.

Our client is specifically looking for ex-military/veteran drivers who bring the professionalism, reliability, discipline, and strong work ethic developed during their military careers.

This is an excellent opportunity for a veteran driver looking for a long-term civilian role offering a good work-life balance, predictable working hours, and a varied driving workload.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a Class 1 articulated vehicle in accordance with all relevant legislation.
  • Carry out trailer shunting duties, primarily moving curtain-sided trailers to and from Felixstowe.
  • Undertake container movements from London Gateway, Southampton, and Felixstowe.
  • Complete occasional multi-drop deliveries as required.
  • Ensure all loads are transported safely and securely.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects promptly.
  • Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately.
  • Comply with Driver Hours, Tachograph, Health & Safety, and company procedures.
  • Maintain a professional standard when representing the company at customer and port locations.
  • Work closely with the transport team to ensure collections and deliveries are completed efficiently.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and condition of the allocated vehicle.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Valid Category C+E (Class 1) HGV Licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification.
  • Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Previous Class 1 driving experience.
  • Experience with containers, ports, shunting, or curtain-sided trailers would be advantageous.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Reliable, professional, and safety-conscious approach.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily workloads.
  • Former Armed Forces personnel / veteran drivers are specifically required for this position.
