The Deputy Manager position is responsible for driving trade by leading our shop teams, maintaining a good understanding of all KPI’s and ensuring the shop can improve or sustain performance. This role delivers an excellent customer experience, contributes to our aim to be leaders in sociable retail, and deputises for the Shop Manager when required.

Airport Requirements

  • To gain an airport pass to work at Gatwick you will need to provide 5 years’ worth of either employment or education references with no gaps over 28 days.
  • CRC (Criminal Record Check) – to be carried out if your application is successful.
  • You will need to hold a valid, in‑date ID.
  • Pass a Gatwick airport security check interview and also a written / online training course.
  • Please also note: the airport is open 365 days a year with trading hours between 3 am to 8 pm (10 pm in peak). You will need to be available to work your contracted hours within these times.
  • Referencing is required as noted and is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain. Failure to obtain satisfactory references or a clear CRC would result in the employment offer being rescinded.

What you’ll be doing

  • Sales & Service Management
    • Lead team briefs to ensure the team are set up with the knowledge and the motivation needed to achieve targets.
    • Review customer feedback and observe the team to ensure they are making customers feel welcome and at home in our shops, and suggest improvements where needed.
    • Plan and organise events, including playing a key role in customer events.
    • Motivate and inspire the team to achieve KPI performance by providing an amazing customer experience to all customers.
    • Drive the team to have meaningful and memorable conversations with customers, ensuring they are aware of each customer’s needs.
    • Ensure the team understand the features of our products, explaining these to customers to support their styling and purchase decisions.
  • People Management and Development
    • Play a key part in setting team objectives to ensure the team work together to achieve goals.
    • Work alongside the Shop Manager to attract, recruit and retain high‑calibre team members.
    • Encourage the team to compile customer information and identify marketing opportunities to drive sales.
  • Shop Operations / Visual Presentation
    • Work alongside the management team to ensure that the product and shop standards are excellent and maintained at all times.
    • Evaluate floor layout and sales trends regularly, and take appropriate action to respond to commercial opportunities.
    • Play a key role in organising stock take and ensure accurate reconciliation.
    • Act as a point of contact for HQ in the shop manager’s absence.
    • Maintain or build a strong relationship with the local charity partner, sharing this passion with the team and customers.
    • Work alongside the shop manager to ensure the shop works within the budgets set.
    • Ensure awareness of the Made for Change products and the positive impact they have.
    • Understand our approach to ethical sourcing and be able to explain this to the team and customers.
    • Live our values, ensuring they are alive in the shop.
