The successful Financial Accountant will be fully qualified (ACA/ACCA), preferably with an audit background, who strives to deliver continuous improvement. You must be an excellent communicator, have strong analytical skills and keep up to date with UK GAAP and IFRS.

Primary objective of the job

As part of the Financial Accounting team, the role will be varied and will be primarily across financial accounts, management accounts, year‑end, and tax reporting requirements.

What you’ll be doing
  • Management Accounts and Budgets
    • Responsible for multiple Head‑Office departments and overheads including Property, Rent Rates, Electricity & Gas, Insurance, IT and more
    • Provide commentary for monthly management accounts pack in those areas
    • Business Partner with senior management and leaders within the business such as Finance Director / IT Director / Head of Property
    • Supporting with the annual budget process and quarterly reforecasts
    • Work closely with Commercial finance team and provide technical support where necessary
    • Perform monthly balance sheet and control account reconciliations
    • Various other ad‑hoc accounting and project work as required
  • Year‑end
    • Play a key role in planning and delivering the year end audit
    • Assisting with the preparation of the annual accounts under IFRS and FRS 101
    • Support the preparation of the IFRS 16 leases schedules
    • Prepare and submit Branch Accounts (Belgium & Ireland)
    • Prepare and submit local GAAP accounts for German entity
    • Support with the preparation of corporation tax computations and capital allowance claims with external tax providers
What you’ll need
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent). This is a great opportunity for a first move out of practice
  • Audit background (preferable)
  • Business partnering – apply financial knowledge to commercial and operational areas
  • Organised – to ensure deadlines are met and expectations are managed
  • Communication – clear and concise communication with colleagues at all levels
  • Relationship building – develop effective relationships that help drive business success, particularly with non‑finance stakeholders
  • Resilience – the ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast‑paced and busy retail environment
  • Results focused – deliver accurate work to completion in a planned and controlled manner
  • Someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to get things done as required
  • IT skills – ability to navigate and understand accounting systems and intermediate‑advanced Excel skills. Accounting system being used is Microsoft NAV
