Assistant Buyer (Soft Accessories, Swim and Night)
White Stuff was established in 1985 and operates shops and concessions in the UK and internationally, selling women’s and men’s clothing, accessories and homeware. The brand emphasizes in-house designed prints, detailed finishes and a distinct, non-hierarchical culture that encourages entrepreneurial ideas and accountability at all levels.
Primary objective of the job: The Assistant Buyer will support the Buyer in the management of the order and delivery process and assist in building the Soft Accessories, Swim and Night range.
Responsibilities
- Present product to the Buyer, Merchandiser and senior Management on a regular basis.
- Work with the Buyer, Merchandiser and Designer to ensure product objectives and Sales plans are delivered; influence range construction using sales information, history, instinct and commercial research.
- Assist in building a commercial, balanced range through competitor benchmarking and trend direction aligned with department and division plans.
- React to current trade to manage risks and maximize opportunities.
- Influence departmental strategy meetings; analyze sales, feedback, and reporting to drive full-price sales, reduce markdowns and identify new product opportunities.
- Contribute to cost-effective negotiations and supplier management.
- Support end-to-end management of the departmental critical path and delivery of goods to the distribution centre; communicate delivery changes to the team.
- Assist with lab dips, strike offs and trims approvals to deliver signed-off product visuals.
- Support fit and critical path discussions with suppliers; provide fit comments when needed and communicate deadlines.
- With support from the Buying Admin Assistant (BAA), manage end-to-end sample administration and approvals.
- Manage garment approval processes from components to final product; assess risks with technical teams and communicate outcomes.
- Maintain quality control in collaboration with Technologist; ensure supplier compliance with White Stuff policies, legal requirements, and labeling/ticketing standards.
- Collaborate with Technologist on quality and delivery issues and agree actions after discussions with the Buying Department and supplier.
Qualifications and attributes
- Experience at Assistant Buyer level, managing your own area with understanding of buying calendars and range-building processes.
- Experience in planning and developing product with Merch and Designer (under Buyer supervision).
- Ability to formulate a clear directional strategy for an area of responsibility.
- Tenacious, positive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement and development of self and junior team members.
- Positive and proactive approach to building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Problem identification with suggestions for improvements or solutions.
- Accountability to meet personal and team targets.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, self-motivated and able to manage a high workload and ad hoc tasks.
