Our client is seeking a Night Transport Operator to join their busy transport operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive individual to play a key role in managing night‑time fleet activities, supporting drivers, and ensuring a smooth handover into the following day’s operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day‑to‑day running of the night fleet, ensuring vehicles are effectively dispatched and operational requirements are completed.
  • Support the Operations Lead with transport planning, job recovery, and fleet utilisation.
  • Ensure all work is completed by the end of shift, providing clear handover notes where required.
  • Monitor operational performance and highlight issues relating to delays, late‑running jobs, and service disruptions.
  • Assist with the management of Vehicle Booking System (VBS) activity, ensuring bookings are used efficiently and costs are controlled.
  • Investigate missed VBS slots and escalate recurring issues where necessary.
  • Complete weekly operational close‑down activities accurately and on time.
  • Maintain regular communication with drivers, providing support and resolving operational issues as they arise.
  • Build effective working relationships with drivers, planners, operators, and management teams.
  • Liaise with the Fleet Team regarding vehicle availability, servicing schedules, maintenance requirements, and breakdowns.
  • Support investigations into vehicle, equipment, or operational inefficiencies.
  • Escalate operational risks, cost concerns, and performance issues to management when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the transport operation.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Confident using transport systems and IT software.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Experience within transport operations, container haulage or traffic planning.
  • Understanding of container movements and Vehicle Booking Systems (VBS).
  • Experience monitoring driver activities, workload allocation, and operational compliance.
  • Knowledge of fleet maintenance coordination and vehicle scheduling.
  • Experience working within day and night transport operations.
  • Exposure to operational reporting, performance monitoring, and trend analysis.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
