We are looking for a driven and proactive Depot Manager to oversee and develop our busy transport operation based in Newbury. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading, fast moving distribution business, playing a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery operations that support our customers every day.

The Role

As Depot Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of a dynamic depot transport function. You’ll lead a team of 30+ drivers, supported by transport supervisors, ensuring operational excellence while maintaining compliance, safety, and high service standards. Given the nature of our operation, flexibility is essential. Our drivers depart in the early morning hours, so you will need to adapt your working pattern to meet the demands of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of 30+ drivers and transport supervisors
  • Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, including Operator Licence obligations
  • Manage driver performance, absence, and training to maintain high standards
  • Oversee route planning and fleet utilisation to maximise efficiency and cost control
  • Drive a strong health & safety culture across the transport operation
  • Monitor KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate closely with warehouse and depot management teams

About You

  • Proven experience as a Transport Manager or in a senior transport leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of transport compliance and fleet management
  • CPC qualified (National or International)
  • Experience managing large driver teams (50+ drivers) in a fast-paced distribution environment
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Resilient, hands-on, and able to make decisions under pressure
  • Flexible with working hours to meet operational demands
