My client is looking for a motivated and detail-focused customs coordinator to join their growing customs team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding who is looking to develop their career within an established logistics business.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring import and export shipments are cleared efficiently and compliantly, working closely with customers, carriers, customs authorities and internal departments.

You will be responsible for preparing customs entries, maintaining compliance with UK and EU customs legislation, and ensuring shipments.

  • Prepare and submit import and export customs declarations using HMRC customs systems.
  • Produce and manage customs documentation, including transit documentation such as T1 movements where required.
  • Verify commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and supporting documentation to ensure customs compliance.
  • Monitor customs entries from submission through to final clearance, resolving any issues promptly.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of UK and EU customs legislation, including post-Brexit trading requirements.
  • Ensure all customs declarations comply with HMRC regulations and international trade requirements.
  • Keep up to date with legislative changes affecting customs procedures and advise colleagues where necessary.
  • Support compliance with customs audits and internal quality procedures.
  • Act as a key point of contact for customers, providing updates on customs clearance and shipment progress.
  • Liaise with overseas agents and clients to obtain the information required for customs processing.
  • Respond to customer enquiries relating to customs duties, VAT, commodity codes and clearance procedures in a professional and timely manner.
  • Work closely with freight forwarding and transport teams to ensure shipments are processed and delivered on schedule.
  • Liaise with carriers, hauliers and warehouse teams to minimise delays and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and government agencies to facilitate smooth customs clearance.
  • Investigate and resolve customs delays, documentation discrepancies and compliance issues.
  • Escalate complex customs matters where appropriate while ensuring customers remain informed throughout.
  • Maintain accurate customs records and shipment documentation.
  • Ensure all customs files are completed correctly and stored in line with company procedures.
  • Support reporting requirements and maintain accurate operational data within internal systems.
  • Knowledge of road freight customs procedures.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines.
  • Previous experience within Customs Clearance, Freight Forwarding or International Logistics.
  • Knowledge of UK Customs regulations, CDS declarations and import/export procedures.
  • Understanding of Incoterms and international shipping documentation.
  • Experience using customs software such as Descartes, Destin8, CDS or similar customs declaration systems.
  • Additional European language skills would be advantageous.
