About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Transport Operator (Nights) to join their busy transport operation.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong transport planning or traffic operator background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating drivers, communicating with ports and customers, monitoring vehicle movements, and ensuring all transport operations run smoothly throughout the night shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and communicate with multiple drivers throughout the shift.
- Liaise with ports regarding deliveries, collections, and operational requirements.
- Book delivery slots for entry into ports.
- Use the TOPS transport management system to record driver start and finish times.
- Monitor vehicle progress, chasing drivers for ETAs and ensuring deliveries remain on schedule.
- Re-route jobs where necessary to maintain service levels and minimise delays.
- Ensure all Proofs of Delivery (PODs) are matched correctly to jobs within the transport system.
- Keep customers informed of any delays, providing updated ETAs and maintaining excellent customer service.
- Work closely with the wider transport team to ensure the smooth running of the operation.
- Ensure all transport activities are carried out in line with company procedures and compliance requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Traffic Operator or Transport Operator is essential.
- Excellent UK geographical knowledge.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to react quickly to operational challenges.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Experience using transport management systems, ideally TOPS, would be advantageous.
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced transport environment.
