We’re delighted to be recruiting for a Transport Operations Manager to join an award-winning, market-leading foodservice wholesaler and distributor based in Berkshire. As Transport Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in leading a large-scale delivery operation, driving continuous improvement and developing a high-performing transport team. With responsibility for approximately 100 drivers and numerous delivery routes serving Central London, this is a high-impact role for an experienced transport professional who thrives in a fast-paced, complex distribution environment.
The Role
You will take ownership of the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of products to customers across Central London. You’ll lead and develop a strong transport team, drive operational improvements and embed a culture of accountability, performance and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a large transport operation of approximately 100 drivers and multiple delivery routes.
- Ensuring safe, efficient and compliant deliveries into Central London.
- Leading change management initiatives to improve operational performance, service levels and efficiency.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing a high-performing transport team.
- Managing transport KPIs, costs, productivity and delivery performance.
- Ensuring compliance with transport legislation, company policies and health and safety standards.
- Working closely with warehouse, commercial and senior management teams to optimise the end-to-end operation.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs and enhance customer satisfaction.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced, commercially minded transport professional with a proven track record of leading large-scale operations and delivering sustainable change. You’ll ideally have:
- A valid Transport Manager CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – essential.
- Proven experience managing a substantial transport operation, ideally within foodservice, FMCG, wholesale, logistics or distribution.
- Experience managing approximately 100 drivers or a similarly complex delivery operation.
- A strong track record of implementing successful change management initiatives.
- Experience coaching, mentoring and developing teams.
- Excellent knowledge of transport compliance, operational planning and performance management.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to influence stakeholders, challenge existing processes and drive continuous improvement.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
