Salary: GBP30000 - GBP35000 per annum

Location: Wakefield, WF2

Hours: Monday to Friday – 9:00 till 17:00

Our client is looking for a Multimodal Import Operator, you will primarily manage ocean freight import shipments from booking through to final delivery, while also supporting air and road freight imports when required. Working closely with overseas agents, shipping lines, hauliers, customs authorities and customers, you will ensure shipments are handled efficiently, compliantly and within agreed service levels.

  • Manage end-to-end ocean freight import shipments (FCL & LCL).
  • Coordinate multimodal import movements across sea, road and air freight.
  • Liaise with overseas agents to arrange shipment departures and monitor arrivals.
  • Arrange customs clearance through CDS and ensure all import documentation is compliant.
  • Coordinate UK transport and final delivery with approved haulage partners.
  • Communicate shipment updates proactively to customers.
  • Resolve operational issues including delays, customs queries and documentation discrepancies.
  • Prepare and check Bills of Lading, arrival notices and shipping documentation.
  • Process supplier invoices and raise accurate customer invoices.
  • Obtain competitive haulage and shipping quotations when required.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records within the freight management system.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers and overseas partners.
  • Ensure all operational files are completed in accordance with company procedures and HMRC regulations.
  • Support other members of the operations team during peak periods.
  • Previous experience working within a freight forwarding import role.
  • Strong knowledge of ocean freight imports, including FCL and LCL shipments.
  • Experience coordinating multimodal freight movements.
  • Good understanding of UK customs procedures and CDS entries.
  • Knowledge of Incoterms and international shipping documentation.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with CargoWise, MultiFreight, CNS, ASM Sequoia or similar freight forwarding software would be advantageous.
