European Road Planner

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and motivated European Road Planner to join their planning team. In this key role, you will be responsible for coordinating collections and deliveries across the UK and Europe, using both contracted and ad hoc haulage providers. You will play a central part in ensuring customer requirements are met while maximising fleet efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan transport activities for collections and deliveries across the UK and Europe based on customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with other planners and offices to optimise use of available resources.
  • Minimise empty mileage and ensure minimum guaranteed kilometres per truck each month.
  • Maximise gross profit on all assignments through effective planning and negotiation.
  • Use rate calculation tools to assist the Fleet Manager in quoting for new business.
  • Identify new business opportunities and develop additional routes to improve fleet utilisation.
  • Support the Forwarding department during emergencies by using internal resources.
  • Onboard and manage Owner Driver (ODR) carriers, ensuring compliance and service standards.
  • Manage ad hoc volumes alongside contracted work to increase turnover.
  • Participate in out-of-hours duties, updating drivers and customers to maintain service levels.
  • Provide cover and team support as needed, including during holidays.
  • Analyse operational challenges and implement solutions to protect customer satisfaction and profit margins.
  • Maintain and improve daily planning processes and provide feedback to the Fleet Manager for continuous improvement.
