An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Team Leader to join a leading food and drink distributor based in Cumbria. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on transport professional to lead a small transport team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the operation while maintaining the highest standards of service, compliance and operational performance.
The Role
As Transport Team Leader, you will play a key role in overseeing daily transport operations, supporting and developing your team, and ensuring vehicles, drivers and processes operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with transport legislation. This is a hands-on leadership position, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and support the transport team, providing coaching, training and day-to-day guidance.
- Oversee the daily transport operation to ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, Health & Safety and company policies.
- Coordinate the commercial vehicle fleet, including servicing, MOTs, inspections and maintenance schedules.
- Investigate transport incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
- Monitor operational KPIs and identify opportunities to improve service levels, efficiency and performance.
- Foster a positive team culture by leading from the front and working collaboratively with colleagues across the operation.
About You
We're looking for a proactive and personable transport professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering operational excellence.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience leading or managing a team within a transport environment.
- The ability to work effectively within a small, close-knit team, leading by example and building strong working relationships.
- Essential experience managing multi-temperature (multi-temp) delivery operations.
- A proven track record of delivering operational results within a busy transport operation.
- Strong knowledge of transport legislation, fleet compliance, Operator Licence requirements and Health & Safety.
- An agile and action-oriented approach, with the ability to make decisions and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication and people management skills, with a personable leadership style that motivates and develops others.
- CPC qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Experience within foodservice distribution would be advantageous.
