Are you an experienced freight forwarding BDM who wants more than just another sales desk? This could be an opportunity to join a growing logistics business at an exciting stage of its development, where you can genuinely put your own stamp on the commercial operation and help shape the future direction of the freight division.

The business has an established presence within the courier and logistics market, with its freight forwarding operation having been developed over the last few years. The freight side is now growing rapidly, and they are looking to bring in an experienced BDM to take greater ownership of the commercial side of the business.

The Opportunity

The freight forwarding division is still relatively young, meaning there is a huge amount of opportunity to develop new business, build relationships and help create the commercial structure needed to scale the operation. Your primary focus will be selling air and sea freight solutions, with the opportunity to cross-sell the wider range of logistics and courier services available across the wider business.

The existing freight operation is already generating significant revenue, but the current leadership team needs to spend more time concentrating on the operational side.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across air and sea freight.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Develop your own pipeline and take ownership of the sales process from initial approach through to conversion.
  • Introduce customers to the wider range of freight, logistics and courier services available.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across the wider business.
  • Develop and grow customer accounts to maximise long-term GP.

What they’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with a genuine freight forwarding sales background, ideally with a strong understanding of air and sea freight. You’ll need to be comfortable generating your own opportunities, winning new customers and building relationships from scratch.

Why consider it?

  • 50,000 basic salary
  • 5,000 car allowance
  • Commission structure currently being finalised, expected to be around 10% of annual GP generated
  • Genuine opportunity to help build and shape the commercial operation
  • Established wider logistics/courier business providing additional services to cross-sell
  • Significant scope for new business development and customer growth
  • Opportunity to work closely with the senior team and have a direct impact on the direction of the freight division
  • Open to candidates based around Birmingham, Southampton or Heathrow
