Fine Art Technician - London Heathrow - Up to £40,000
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fine Art Technician to join a specialist art logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe handling, packing, transportation, installation, and storage of artworks. This role requires a high level of professionalism, technical ability, discretion, and a strong commitment to best practices in fine art handling and logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely handle, pack, and transport a wide range of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and other delicate objects.
- Assist with and carry out the installation and de-installation of artworks at galleries, museums, private residences, exhibitions, and art fairs.
- Load and unload artworks from vehicles using appropriate lifting, handling, and securing techniques to ensure their safe transportation.
- Conduct detailed condition checks before and after transit, reporting any discrepancies or damage.
- Complete and maintain accurate documentation, including condition reports, packing lists, and inventory records.
- Liaise professionally with clients, conservators, registrars, couriers, and other stakeholders throughout each project.
- Ensure all tools, vehicles, packing materials, and equipment are maintained in good working order.
- Support warehouse operations, including artwork intake, inventory management, storage, and organisation.
- Travel throughout the UK and occasionally internationally to support installations, exhibitions, and specialist projects.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, company policies, and industry best practices when handling valuable and fragile artworks.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within a fine art handling, art logistics, museum, gallery, or specialist removals environment.
- Strong knowledge of industry best practices relating to art handling, packing, transportation, and installation.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to handle valuable and fragile items with care.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and travel when required.
- Previous experience in fine art handling or specialist logistics is essential.
- Full UK driving licence (essential for role requirements).
- Capable of lifting and moving artworks safely using appropriate manual handling techniques.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.
- Professional, reliable, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of customer service and discretion.
