Our client is seeking an experienced and technically strong Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead and deliver complex electrical design solutions across a range of engineering projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to commissioning and handover, while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, legislation, and client requirements.
- Produce and review detailed electrical design documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, calculations, and specifications.
- Carry out electrical calculations such as load studies, fault levels, cable sizing.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and mentoring to junior and graduate engineers.
- Review and approve designs produced by others, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and deliver project requirements.
- Support project planning, cost estimation, and risk assessments.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and safety assessments where required.
- Support commissioning activities and provide technical assistance during installation and testing.
- Identify opportunities for design improvement, standardisation, and innovation.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a senior electrical design role within an engineering or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, control systems, and electrical safety.
- Experience producing and checking detailed electrical designs and calculations.
- Proficient with electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, ETAP, Amtech, or similar.
- Strong understanding of applicable electrical standards and regulations.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and make sound engineering decisions.
- Experience within sectors such as energy, industrial automation, manufacturing, utilities, or infrastructure.
- Experience with PLCs, control panels, or instrumentation design.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g. IEC 61508 / 61511).
