An established UK refrigeration and cooling specialist is looking to strengthen its technical design and pre-construction capability with the appointment of a Senior Refrigeration Design Engineer. This is a key technical role within the business, offering long-term stability and progression as part of a well-established design function.
The position focuses on the design, costing and specification of industrial refrigeration, cold chain and low‑carbon heating solutions, with a strong emphasis on natural refrigerants including CO₂ and hydrocarbons. Projects are delivered nationwide and across the south, spanning industrial, cold storage and large‑scale commercial environments.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead for refrigeration and cooling design on assigned projects
- Support tender and bid activity across industrial heating and cold chain opportunities
- Engage directly with clients and consultants to develop technically robust design solutions
- Undertake detailed site inspections and condition surveys of refrigeration systems
- Produce full engineering designs, specifications, and performance calculations for heating and cooling systems
- Coordinate with manufacturers and supply chain partners to define equipment selection and pricing
- Prepare accurate technical submissions and cost information to support commercial decisions
- Ensure designs comply with all relevant standards and legislation, including safety and environmental regulations
- Attend technical and value engineering meetings where required
- Provide technical handover information to project and contracts teams
- Offer ongoing engineering support during project delivery to maintain design intent
- Contribute to the development of client relationships and repeat business
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years’ experience within the refrigeration sector
- Strong background in refrigeration system design and technical engineering support
- Practical experience working with natural refrigerants (COâ‚‚ and hydrocarbons)
- Exposure to industrial refrigeration environments is advantageous
- Knowledge of heating systems and hydronic applications preferred
- Strong technical problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
- Commercially aware with the ability to balance cost, performance, and compliance
- Confident communicator with clients and internal stakeholders
- IT literate with experience producing technical reports and documentation
- Full UK driving licence
